Thiruvananthapuram : The open campaign for Assembly elections comes to a close 7 pm Sunday evening , in line with 48 hours mandated before polls. In view of Covid, the polling booths will stay open up to 7 pm, Tuesday except for areas with maoist threats, where voting winds up by 6 pm, Tuesday. Campaign at these places will stop by 6 pm, Sunday. Bike rallies will draw to a close 72 hours before poll closure.
As per EC guidelines, only five vehicles would be allowed at a roadshow on any given path. A gap of half-hour is mandatory before the next rally is allowed into the the stretch. Staff on election duty can cast their vote in respective constituencies up to 5 pm, Sunday at postal-vote centres. The Assembly elections were announced on 26th February and notification published on 12th of March. 957 candidates are in the fray across 140 constituencies.
No Culmination Celebration This Time
The Central Election Commission approved Chief Electoral Officer Teekaram Meena’s recommendation of banning culmination celebrations this time around owing to prevalent covid conditions. The District Collectors have been instructed to take measures for observing that guideline.
