Thiruvananthapuram : The political establishment came together in one voice to pass the resolution against Centre’s decision to handover operations, management and development of Thiruvananthapuram airport to the Adanis. The resolution was presented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
CM told the House the Centre ignored state’s demand to be allowed to run the airport. It was a request that was placed as soon as Centre announced its privatisation plans for airports, CM said adding that, the state government also offered an amount equivalent to that quoted by Adani enterprise. Kannur and Cochin International airports are being run well and profitably by the state government while Adani Enterprise has no prior experience of handling airports, CM pointed out. Also, the state government contributed enormous expanse of land in the development of Thiruvananthapuram airport against which there remains, a longstanding demand with the centre for factoring in state's stakeholding to the effect, said CM.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala backed the proposition announcing that Opposition supports the essence of the resolution and extends support in view of larger interest of the state.
