Thiruvananthapuram : 86 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in the state today said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the media briefing Tuesday.
The district-wise breakup for new infections is : Malappuram -15; Alappuzha -10; Kasaragod -9; Kollam - 8, Thiruvananthapuram -7; 6 each in Kottayam, Thrissur and Wayanad; 5 each in Palakkad, Kozhikode and Kannur; Ernakulam 0 3; Pathanamthitta -1.
Of the new cases, 46 are arrivals from abroad :- Kuwait - 21; UAE - 16; Saudi Arabia - 6; Maldives - 1; Qatar - 1; Oman - 1.
26 among the new infections were detected in people who came from other states namely : Maharashtra - 9, Tamil Nadu - 7; Karnataka - 5; Delhi - 3; Gujarat - 1; Rajasthan - 1.
12 new infections registered today occurred from local transmission. The include : 6 fom Wayanad, Malappuram - 4; Kannur 1; Kasaragod -1. A healthcare worker in Palakkad was diagnosed with the illness today.
The virus was detected in a 71-year-old Nalanchira resident, KG Varghese, who died from acute respiratory illness today, said CM.
Meanwhile, 19 persons under treatment for covid tested negative in their tests today. Those who were discharged today include : 7 each from Kasaragod and Kottayam; 2 from Thiruvananthapuram, 1 each from Pathanamthitta, Malappuram and Kannur. With this, the total number of recoveries in the state touched 774.
25,832 people arrived by flights, 1,621 by sea, 10.318 by rail and 1,06,218 through state borders. A total of 1,43,989 people have arrived from outside Kerala so far.
1,47,010 people are under surveillance in the state. Of them, 1,45,670 remain in home and institutional quarantining while 1,340 are in hospitals. Today 200 more people were admitted into hospitals.
2421 samples have been forwarded for testing in the past 24 hours. The total number of samples, including augmented ones, put to test so far is 71,068. 67,249 showed no presence of the virus. Another 15,101 samples were sent for tests as part of sentinel survey, of which 13,908 proved negative for the virus.
One more area, Anakayam in Malappuram, was declared hotspot today. There are a total of 122 hotspots in the state.
