Thiruvananthapuram : In the highest single-day infections, 127 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the state today, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at press briefing on Saturday evening. There were 57 recoveries recorded in the day.
Of the 127 new cases, 87 pertain to overseas arrivals and 36 from other states. 3 people contracted the infection via direct contact. One health worker was diagnosed with the disease during the day. The breakup for the day’s influx from other states is : Maharashtra - 15; Delhi - 9; Tamil Nadu - 5; Uttar Pradesh - 2; Karnataka - 2; Rajasthan - 1; Madhya Pradesh - 1; Gujarat - 1.
This is the fourth time that the single-day tally for fresh cases has crossed 100. There were 111 new infections reported on 5 June, 108 on 6 June and 107 on 7 June. In the capital, growth in number of cases with no identified source, has authorities worried. Movement in Thiruvananthapuram calls for higher vigil. Added cops will be deployed to oversee social distancing protocol among public.
