Thiruvananthapuram : There has been surge in Covid cases around the state in the aftermath of elections owing to which, the govt has decided to step up mitigation efforts, Health Minister KK Shailaja told reporters on Saturday. Department-level initiatives will commence under CM’s leadership. Testing levels will ramped up across the districts, said the minister. She was speaking with media after attending a meeting convened by Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
At the meeting, the Union Minister said there has been huge surge in Covid cases toward end of March. The situation is very severe in states like Maharashtra that are passing the pandemic amid acute shortage of beds and oxygen, he said
Kerala has so far reported 11,89,000 cases and has carried out 1.39 crore tests, said Minister KK Shailaja 58,245 people remain under treatment. Over 2.5 lakh samples have been collected yesterday and today combined, the results of which will become known tomorrow. Further course of action will take cue from these results and there will be corresponding guidelines issued thereupon, the minister added.
