Thiruvananthapuram : With joint efforts, it has been possible to make good quality education available to students via digital classes, said Education Minister V Sivankutty. The minister was responding to an adjournment motion presented by Roji M John, PK Basheer, Monce Joseph, Mani C Kappan and Anoobh Jacob.
It was possible to bring maximum number of students to the learning platform with efforts on part of MLAs, panchayats and managements, the minister said.
Digital classes were held even on holidays at several places. In June of 220 trial classes were held for 2 weeks and it was possible to reach the those classes to most children. A survey was carried out under “Samagra Siksha Kerala” to identify students who might have been left outside the digital learning project. The study identified 2.5 lakh children who were unable to access the facility from a total of 40 lakh students enrolled.
Committees endeavoured to ensure digital classes for each student. Situations that couldn’t be resolved at school-level, were addressed by ALO, DLO and AD offices. Efforts are on to trying fixing solutions through the Director of Education. MLAs too have played a crucial role in the endeavour.
In cases where children complained on lack of mobile phones, the govt and Opposition worked together to ensure telephone and television sets. The number of people without digital access is dwindling with each passing day. The High Court had booked case against lack of digital arrangements for children last year. However, on examining ground facts, the court was soon satisfied and gave sanction for commencement of digital classes for all.
This year, the classes took off after conducting trial runs for 15 days. Children and teachers should be able to interact with one another. That is a problem. This government will work to ensure that all children access online learning, said the minister. Lack of internet will be resolved with efforts from all quarters, the minister added.
