NEW DELHI : As per statistics released by National Crime Record Bureau(NCRB) pertaining to 2017, Kerala becomes the safest place to live, having the lowest murder rate in India.
Kerala recorded a .08 percent in murder rates in 2017, followed by Jammu Kashmir with 1.2 percent
Uttar Pradesh topped the charts, with 4,324 murders i.e. 15 percent (of the country’s total murders.
Other states that recorded high murder rates included Arunachal Pradesh(5.9), Jharkhand(4.3) and Haryana(3.7)
In regions under Central rule, Delhi was on forefront with 487 murders in 2017. Incidentally, its numbers stood at 570 in 2015 and 528 in 2016. Among union territories, Lakshadweep did not record any murder in recent years.
The number of murders have come down in Kerala - 334 in 2015 and 305 in 2016, 2017. In 2017, the murders related to 11 arising from Land Disputes , 64 fromFamily Conflicts, Brawls (25), Money Disputes(9), 107 personal vengeance, 16 personal gain, 17 related to extra-marital, 4 pertaining to love affair conflicts 28 over varied other reasons and 12 from unclear motives.
Kerala also recorded 0.8% rate in its kidnappings/holding for ransom cases. Incidentally, Mizoram has the lowest rate in this category while Assam led the list with a 23.9 percent rate. Abductions in Haryana figured at 15.7 percent. Neighbouring Bihar fared at 15.7 percent.
Crimes against scheduled tribe was highest in Bihar with a whopping 40.7 percent while Assam recorded highest rate of attacks against women and Sikkim topped the list in crimes against children.
