Kollam : Four workers died trapped in a well they were digging in Kollam’s Kundara. The deceased were identified as Rajan(35), Somarajan(54), Siva Prasad(24) and Manoj(32). All four got trapped in a 100-ft deep well in Perrumbuzha Kovilmukalil.
The well being dug newly was part of a house construction on the site. One worker got into the base and experienced breathlessness following which, the second person climbed down to help him. However when both sufferred the same condition, the two others onlooking got down in a bid to haul them out with a rope.
Later, Fire Force personnel arrived at the scene and hauled the trapped workers out but they had died from what is believed to be toxic fumes emanating from base of the well. One of Fire Force’s own staff collapsed to ground during the operation and has been moved to the hospital.
