Kerala Leads The List as Niti Aayog-World Bank Study Ranks States on Overall Health Performance

Thiruvananthapuram > Niti Aayog's Health Index, putting Kerala on top among large states on overall health performance was recognition of the achievements and steps taken in the sector after the CPI-M led LDF government came to power, state Health Minister K K Shailaja said here today.

"The report was a recognition of the achievements and steps taken in the health field after the CPI(M) led LDF government came to power," she said. "As per the Niti Ayog report, Kerala achieved the honour by securing 6.55-80.00 score” she said in a press release.

Kerala was followed by Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, according to the report - 'Healthy States, Progressive India: Report on Rank of States and UTs'. Rajasthan, Bihar and Odisha are among those which have performed poorly on the index.

The Minister said that steps were underway under the 'Aardram' project to improve infrastructure, from Primary Health Centres to Medical Colleges. The objective was to turn them into being 'patient friendly and centres of excellence', she said. A total of 170 PHCs were being taken up for upgradation as Family Health Centres, the minister said.
