Wellington: In a proud feat, Malayali woman, Priyanka Radhakrishan, has been elevated to a new role in the New Zealand government, as cabinet member.. In the newly shuffled cabinet Priyanka is in-charge of Social and Youth Welfare functioning from Deputy Prime Minister, Grant Robertson’s cabinet.
Native to Ernakulam’s Paravur, Priyanka is the first Indian to be part of New Zealand cabinet. She debuted into Parliament in 2017 becoming Private Secretary to Heritage Affairs. She rose to be Prime Minister Jacinda Arden’s confidante in the Labour Party and won her second term as MP before becoming part of the central cabinet. Priyanka is daughter of Madavanaparambu Radhakrishnan and Usha.
She is married to Ryst Church native Richardson. Priyanka had arrived in New Zealand to pursue post-graduate degree in Developmental Studies at Wellington University and joined active politics later.
