The state government’s gigantic project, the Petrochemical Park, moves toward becoming a reality. The Petrochemical Park project will set up business clusters that will use as raw material the inorganic waste generated by Cochin Refineries, a subsidiary of BPCL. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will lay the park's  foundation stone on  Wednesday. Minister EP Jayarajan will preside over the event. The project budgeted for Rs 300 crores will complete in 30 months.

Once operational, around 10,000 persons will gain direct employment and an equal number will benefit from indirect jobs at the park.  The park is being set up on 481.79 acres of land the state government took over from central government-owned  company, the FCT. Of this, 33% land will be reserved for setting green belt inside the park meaning 229 acres will become available for commercial units. Essential infrastructure will be arranged for by KINFRA, tenders for which are in the final processing-stage.

Businesses at the park will basically use inorganic material pushed out out by BPCL including propylene, benzene, acrylic acid and toluene.
