Kerala Protests United : LDF-UDF Holds Joint Satyagraha Against Citizenship Amendment Act

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM :  In a show of united protest against the amended Citizenship Act, the LDF and UDF  began their joint ‘Satyagraha’  in the capital.

Beginning 10.30 am Monday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and prominent leaders from allied parties, staged sit-in at the Martyr’s column in a show of solidarity. The Chief Minister inaugurated the demonstration.  

 

Members in large numbers, shouted slogans asking for immediate  withdrawal of  the anti-constitutional law and uphold  constitutional values.

 

Parties cut across lines to  come together after the new law, that defied equality and secularism guaranteed by constitution and  gave rise to  widespread panic and violent protests across the country.

The amendment, that butchers the secular essence of  India, is being helmed by the  ruling party  The party is controlled by RSS which is a facist organisation, the Chief Minister said.

 

The NDA govt introduced the unconstitutional law, granting citizenship on communal lines, by way of its majority strength in the parliament. No one with faith in democracy  can accept this dark law. This is the very backdrop,  calling for united protests by people of kerala – a step essential for country’s survival itself,  Pinarayi said.

 

Prominent personalities from socio-cultural fields and leaders from different political parties lend voice to the protest. Workers from the progressive front also joined the Satyagraha.
