Kollam : Rice trucks hit the street with huge success, selling Rs 10,21,613 worth rice over two days. Goaled to rein in rising costs of the staple grain, “Ari Vandi(rice vans)’ crisscrossed the district from Tuesday, with major sales witnessed for “jaya” rice variety - a whopping sale of 38,652 kilos that fetched in Rs 9.66 lakhs. 1265 kilos of matta variety was sold bringing in Rs 30,364 , the raw rice or ‘panchari’ was least sought amounting to just Rs 3450 over sake if 150 kilos.
The govt made effective interventions in cost factor of Andhra "jaya", the highest sale of which happened in Punalur Taluk. Rice amounting to Rs 3,47,193 was sold in this region, Sales in this variety amounted to Rs 2,88,790. Sales in Karunggapally amounted to Rs2,88,790, Kollam Taluk Rs 2,51,195 and Rs 1,34,435 in Kottarakara.
