Thiruvananthapuram : The highest spike in state’s covid cases occurred in September. The tally for positive cases in September more than doubled compared to August. Crowds during Onam, long-draw party protests breaching protocols and violence around the state together triggered unprecedented surges through September.
While the month of August ended with 51,772 confirmed cases, that number spiraled to 1,11,891 in September. Figuratively, that amounts to 57.06 percent of the total positive cases since the outbreak.
In August, 8.48 percent of those tested confirmed covid infection. On the last day of September, Wednesday, 13.87 percent of the tested persons proved positive for the virus, The sharp rise is indicative of a crucial stage in the pandemic.
The Health Department has cautioned high vigil in coming weeks especially for aged persons, children and those with underlying health conditions.
