Thiruvananthapuram : The University Laws(Amendment) Bill has been referred to the Subject-Select Committee. The legislation aims to have universities headed by educationists. Are UGC rules above laws by passed by an Assembly, the minister asked, and cited appointment of Mallika Sarabhai as Kalamandalam Chancellor to drive the point that qualified people shall be be appointed hitherto.

The Bill will come returned from the Subject Committee following which, it shall be passed in the Assembly and forwarded to the Governor.
