KFON To Become Reality; Installations at 200 Centres in Kasaragod By Next Month

Kasaragod: Government’s project, making  good on its promise to provide free internet connectivity to poorer sections of the society and to others at minimal rate, will inaugurate next month with installations at 127 centres in Kasaragod district. The optic fibre network works required for the project is complete to nearly 99 percent.

The first installations networking 127 centres will span the district’s government  offices, hospitals and schools. Following this, internet connections will be delivered to over 1 lakh households from the economically backward sections of the state.  Presently, net charges for children’s online classes alone costs a family Rs 500 per month. With the advent of K-Fon households will be relieved of that  cost burden.

KFON  Ltd is a joint venture of KSEB and KSITIL. Once functional, KFON will help speed up the digitalisation of government services. Also the e-health project can be implemented more effectively All mobile towers too can be connected to the KFON fibre network.

 The project costing Rs 1516.76 crore will be aided with funds from KIIFB. The challenge faced with currently is  centre’s nod for drawing cables between posts over railway tracks and national highways.
