Thiruvnananthapuram: In a proud feat for the country, Kerala’s high speed internet connectivity at affordable rates, KFON, becomes a reality. The phase one of the project spanning Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram will be inaugurated online by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at 5.30 pm evening, Monday.
Initially, KFON project will provide connectivity in these seven districts at delivered to 1000 government offices in all. Then in July, 5700 more offices will be served by KFON. A total of 30,000 government offices will be get their internet connectivity from KFON in first phase of the project. Cables have been pulled using KSEB poles spanning 7500 km in length.
In the next phase, KFON will provide free-of-cost internet connection to over 2 lakh BPL families in the state. The project comes at a cost of Rs 1531 crores, Seventy percent of the funding has been done KIIFB. The inaugural event will be presided over by minister MM Mani. Finance minister TM Thomas too will be present on the occasion.
