CM To Inaugurate Kochi Metro’s New Stretch; Services Up To Pettah Begin Today

Kochi : With  Phase-1 construction now complete, Kochi Metro services, suspended for nearly five months owing to the pandemic, are set to resume today. The re-opening will also see commissioning of  the new 1.33 km stretch extending  from Thaikuttam  to Pettah, the first service which, will be inaugurated by  Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan via  video conferencing at 12.30 pm today.

The  metro  services in the regular stretches rebegins  7 am Monday morning while the full run along 25.48 km from Petah to Aluva will commence post noon.

Discount on ticket fares
The maximum-fare ticket of Rs 60 for the 53-minute travel from start to finish, has been slashed to Rs 50. MRL also offers a 10 percent discount on its Metro Card for its commuters. The tickets thus come in the slab of rupees 10,20,30 and 50 now. A 20-rupee ticket is valid for ride up to five stations, a 30-rupee ticket up to 12 stations beyond which, Rs 50 will apply. The minimum Rs 10-ticket has been left unchanged.

There are discounts on weekday and weekend passes too. The weekend pass of Rs 125 earlier stands reduced by Rs 15 and the Rs 125-weekday-pass will cost Rs 30 lesser now.

There will be no metro services between 1 to  2 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays. Trains will run paced  10 minutes beginning 7 am in the morning  up to 12 pm Services from 12 pm up to 8 pm night will run in 20-minute intervals.

To ensure air ventilation during trips, the train will make a minimum 20-sec halt at each station and a 5-minute break   at terminals.
