Kochi : The Kochi - Muziris Biennale will help fight against cultural invasions, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The politics of Biennale is to defend cultural diversity at a time when reactionary ideologies like one race, one language, one dress, that are trying make inroads in Kochi.
The Chief Minister was inaugurating the fifth edition of Muziris Biennale at Fort Kochi Parade Ground. Biennale has a democratic approach , one that includes all sections of the community. It’s also empathy for those suffering pain. Creations in Biennale will reflect struggles against injustices.
The state government is invoking measures to step up progress in the cultural space and has allocated Rs 7 crore, to Biennale, considering its proud growth record the past 10 years. This is the largest government aid given for a specific cultural fest in India, said CM.
At the inaugural, Biennale Foundation President Bose Krishnamachari delivered the opening address. Also present at the function were : Ministers KN Balagopal, P Rajeev, PA Mohammad Riaz, Mayor M Anil Kumar, Hib Eden MP, MLAs KJ Maxey, TJ Vinod, Former Minister KV Thomas, French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Lenain, Coast Guard Commander N Ravi, Kochi Biennale Adeeb Ahmed, MD, Lulu Financial Group, who is also a Foundation Trustee,
