Thiruvananthapuram : Veteran CPI(M) leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan left for Apollo hospital in Chennai for specialised medical treatment. Kodiyeri was transported to the airport in a special ambulance this morning 10.30 am from his flat next to AKG Centre in the capital from where, an air ambulance will ferry the leader to Apollo hospital in Chennai.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and party Secretary MV Govindan met with Kodiyeri at his residence before departure to Chennai. A special team of doctors from Apolla had recently arrived at Kodiyeri’s home to evaluate current health condition, following which air ambulance was arranged for the impending transit.
The Left stalwart had recently announced inability to conduct party affairs as its State Secretary, owing to health issues and continued medical treatment. CPI(M) in its meeting held Sunday elected MV Govindan as his successor.
