Kollam : The 22-year-old mother of infant, who died from abandonment in a leafy pit soon after birth, admitted to having been aware of the child’s likely death. The confessesion came as police visited accused Reshma at Attakulangara jail on Thursday up on her recovery from Covid.
Reshma said she was deeply in love with her Facebook lover Ananthu, whom she had met during online chats and hoped to start a new life with him. Ananthu was well aware of her being married to Vishnu, she told police. However, fearing the child could become a impediment in the relationship, she decided get rid of the baby, said Reshma.
Once on being prompted to meet in person, Reshma left for Varkala to meet Ananthu, although he never turned up. Post that journey Vishnu, grew suspicious of her phone communications and frequently beat her up during arguments. Frequent fights took a toll on the marriage and Reshma grew more determined to live with Ananthu. However, hopes dashed and she became gripped with tension after police stumbled up on the dead child, Reshma told the police.
Ananthu in fact was a fictitious person created via fake account using Facebook by Reshma’s co-sister Arya(23) and Vishnu’s niece Greeshma(22). Both the women ended their lives jumping into Ithikira river when called by police early on.
Reshma was covid-positive at the time of her arrest. Hence the police waited until Thursday for recovery . The 2-hour questioning was carried out in presence of a clinical psychologist by team headed by CI T Satheesh Kumar.
