Kozhikode : The accused in arson on board Kannur - Alappuzha Express train, Sharuk Saif, harbored a passion for terror, said ADGP MR Ajth Kumar. For his twisted obsession that claimed three innocent lives, Sharukh has been charged with UAPA(Unlawful Activities Prohibition Ac), based on irrefutable scientific evidences.
The arson was committed with prior planning. Sharukh regularly watched violent videos of people like Zakr Naik. Also he hails from a locality where extremist thinking is rife.
Sharukh has confessed to the crime. His statements have been corroborated with evidences. Sharukh landed in Kerala with definite intention and pre-planning. UAPA charges do not automatically grant NIA jurisdiction over the case. More investigations are underway to find he might also have links with terror organisations. Investigators are also looking to see if Sharukh received any assistance locally for the crime, said ADGP.
