Thiruvananthapuram : The Monday train fire incident is saddening and shocking, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Three lives, including that of an infant, , have been lost in the arson perpetrated inside Alappuzha – Kannur Express. There are others who have sustained burn injuries too, remarked CM.
Directions have been issued to the police for comprehensive investigation that will bring all aspects of the crime before law. A Special Investigation Team shall be formed for the purpose and probe will be supervised by the State Police Chief himself Meanwhile police have intensified their hunt for the culprits, CM told reporters.
The State government will take strong measures to ensure safety for train passengers. It shall be demanded of the Union Railway Ministry to urgently take up all measures possible towards safety for people's lives, said CM, adding that, the government shares grief of bereaved families. Treatment of those injured shall be ensured, said CM.
The Crime : An identified man walked into D1 compartment of Kannur Express from D2, late Sunday night close to 9.30 pm. He throew petrol on sleeping passengers and lit fire. Three, including a infant, jumped out of the train and died. Several others sustained burn injuries. The incident took place between Elathur and Kolandy in Kozhikode.
