Thiruvananthapuram : KPCC woman Leena's ploy to draw attention while also meeting a political aim has backfired and with an unexpected twist. . Police during the course of their investigations found how the widely purported attack on her house in Muttathara, was one that Leena set up herself. They arrested her son in the incdent on Friday.
The amusing episode occurred on Wednesday. Leena, a KPCC member and former Youth Congress state general secretary, alleged that an unidentified assailant had attacked her house while she and the children were asleep. Broken pieces of glass were found on the bed, however all three appeared to have escaped without injuries. In her complaint, Leena told police the perpetrators were most likely the CPI(M) workers in the locality with whom she had entered into an argument after the Venjaramoodu murders. She was woken up by a shattering sound and saw a man wielding iron rod flee the compound.
Subsequently, Leena became the focus of media camera with prominent Congressmen including former Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran, DCC president Neyyatinkara Sanal, VS Shivakumar MLA and KPCC executive committee member MA Latheef visiting her house, during which she played the victim drama rather deftly.
Police were however suspicious from the very beginning given inconsistencies in the versions provided by the family. The neighbours too incidentally, did not believe the story. And, something about Leena's son Krishna did not sit right. So police quizzed him more and at the end of a thorough questioning, the boy confessed it was he who shattered the glass window and faked the attack. The motive, he said was their plan to have fingers pointing at CPI(M).
