THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : After producing over 14 lakh bottles of sanitisers, Kerala State Drugs & Pharmaceuticals(KSDP) is preparing to supply quality masks at affordable prices, with 1 lakh pieces, that conform to specifics laid down by World Health Organisation(WHO), now ready.
The large scale production of masks is being carried out with support from Kudumbasree network. The three-layered mask made from 25 GSM fabric comes at just Rs 9 per piece.
Incidentally, the company is on way to automate its production. Once done, the price will come further down, said M D, Shyamala. Tenders have been invited to procure automatic machine costing around Rs 25 lakhs. Rooms to install the machinery and factory to house the production facility too have been readied at Kalvoor.
Automated production is expected to commence this month end. KSDP Chairperson CB Chandrababy said, the state-owned company took up mask production to curb escalating prices and ensure availability, with sudden surges in demand especially now that wearing it is mandatory for everyone if outside of their homes.
