Kozhikode : Widely loved actor, Mamukoya, was laid to rest at Kannamparampu Mosque cemetery with full state honours. Hundreds thronged the site to pay their last respects. Namaz for the late actor was held earlier at Arakinar Mujahid mosque.
Thousands line-up at Kozhikode’s Town Hall earlier and at Arakinar house to catch a glimpse of the popular actor. Prominent personalities included Speaker AN Shamseer, Satyan Anthikad, VM Vinu, Santhosh Keezhatoor, Savitri Sreedharan and others from film fraternity and cultural circles.
Mamukoya passed away Wednesday noon 1.05 pm from a brain haemorrhage and cardiac arrest. The end came at a private hospital in Kozhikode where he was shifted to from the hospital that attended him after he collapsed at inaugural of a football tournament.
Mamukoya started his career in theatre, before debuting in Malayalam film, Anyarude Bhoomi in 1979. Mamukoya pppularised Mapllila dialect of Malabar with an inimitable style. His toothy grin and rustic looks struck a chord with larger public. Mamukoya acted in over 450 movies during his 5-decade stint in cinema.
Mamukoya is survived by his wife Subra and their four children.
