Laptops For Children; 200 Students Across 14 Districts; Project Vidyasree Unveils

Chilren speak to CM on the laptops they recieved on the inaugural day

Thiruvananthapuram: Vidyasree - the proud project goaled to provide every student with laptop -  unveils.. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated first phase of the project distributing laptops to 200 students across 14 districts.

The laptops distributed under the scheme were all within beneficiaries’ budgets. Vidyasree project is part of governmental efforts to eradicate digital inequality in state. The govt will help  children from difficult backgrounds to acquire their own laptops via subsidies,  KSFE chit funds and in co-operation with Kudumbasree. 1,44,000 students have enrolled under the scheme of whom, 60,816 have applied for laptops.

Laptops will reach 10 lakh homes via Vidyasree project, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the inaugural. It is a model project for the country designed to remove hindrances posed in  education under  covid conditions, said CM.

As online studies have  gotten universal, it is important to ensure viable laptops to children from ordinary households. Moreover, with internet becoming an universal right, it is essential to provide settings for the society to  move forward d as a knowledgeable lot. KFON will ensure internet connectivity to all corners of our land. Vidyasree project is integral to the comprehensive programme toward greater education, amassment of knowledge and in turn generating jobs that will promote advancement of our society, said CM.

Minister Thomas Isaac presided over the event. Speakers included Minister AC Moideen, Minister C Raveendranath, VK Prashanth, KSFE MD P. P. Subramanian, Kudumbasree State Program Manager Dr. Shamina, Kudumbasree Executive Director S. Harikishore, Local Self=government secretary Sharada Murleedharan and IT Additional Secretary Muhamad Y Safeerullah. Students who received laptops spoke with the Chief Minister via their devices.

More Schemes For Enrolment
Kudumbasree members can join KSFE chit funds to secure laptops by paying just Rs 500 per installment for 30 months. Those paying regularly stand to enjoy a further discount. Laptop will be delivered soon as 3 installments are paid. Dependents from Kudumbasree families will get laptop for just Rs 7000 on loan, the 5 percent interest on which will be paid by government and 4  borne by KSFE. Scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and  families from the fishing community will enjoy added benefits granted by their respective departments. Local self bodies will provide subsidies for those belonging to backward upper caste families. Beneficiaries can choose laptops from Coconics, Lenovo and AHP Acer models
