LDF Bags Control Of Idukki Block Panchayat; Former President Leaves Cong, Joins CPI(M)

Idukki :  LDF unseats UDF in Idukki Block Panchayat after former President, Raji Chandran, left Congress to join CPI(M). In the presidential elections held today, Raji  Chandran contested as LDF candidate and won majority. She clinched victory with backing of seven members.

Raji, formerly the president, ended  ties with Congress  in line with an agreement requiring her to stay in the party for a 3-year period.

Idukki Block Panchayat comprises a total of 13 seats. UDF held seven seats earlier -  Congress 5, Kerala Congress 2, while,  LDF had two seats for CPI(M), Kerala Congress 2, CPI  1 and NCPA 1. With Raji Chandran leaving Congress,   balance tilted in favour of LDF.
