Katmandu : Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda and Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal(Maoist Centre) was appointed Prime Minster of Nepal by the President Bidhya Devi Bhandari after emerging as majority coalition post elections held in November.
The Left front comprises Prachanda-led Communist Party of Nepal(Maoist Centre), the Commuist Party of Nepal(IUnified Marxist Leninist), the Rashtriya Sawantantra Party(RSP) led by Ravi Lamichane, the pro-monarchhy Rashtriya Prajatantra Party, the Nagarik Unmukti Party, the Janata Samajawadi Party led by Upendra Yadav and Janamat Party of former secessionist leader CK Raut.
Prachanda enjoys support of 165 members in the 275-member House. The power-sharing arrangement is for Prachanda to be PM for the first two-and-half-year of the tenure.
A third-timer, Prachanda was Prime Minister back in 2008-09 after which he stepped down over power-sharing issues. His second term came in 2016 when he replaced Oli following the economic blockade of Nepal during 2015-16 from Madhesi protests.
The elections held last month failed to produce a clear majority and Prachanda forged the coalition well before the deadline given by the President.
