Kochi: The High Court on Tuesday clarified that, at no point, did LIFE Mission accept foreign fund for its housing project in Wadakanchery. Justice G Arun made the observation while ruling interim stay on CBI probe into the state housing project for the poor. The observation acknowledges the government’s main argument that, there being no foreign currency involved, a case invoking Foreign Currency Regulation Act(FCRA) against LIFE Mission cannot be sustained.
The interim stay is effective for two months. The ruling comes on petition submitted by LIFE Mission CEO seeking to quash CBI probe.
The CEO’s plea cited how LIFE Mission’s role in Wadakanchery was limited to merely offering land for constructing houses and that project was being unnecessarily dragged into legal tangles. The CBI probe was triggered by Anil Akkara’s complaint seeking probe into alleged corruption in LIFE Mission’s housing project undertaken by Unitech contactors at Wadakanchery.
In the ruling, the court has not however stayed probe against Unitech although the company maintained that the action was redundant.
