Malappuram: Mullappally Ramachandran’s unsavoury remarks against Health Minister, KK Shailaja have not gone well with Congress’s chief ally the Muslim League too, if the party’s General Secretary KPA Majeed’s reaction is anything to go by. KPCC President Mullappally should have avoided the unsavoury comments, said the senior leader adding that, League believes in keeping out personal attacks under any circumstance..
Inaugurating a one-day fast against government’s mandatory pre-flight covid tests on Friday, Mullappally mocked at the Health Minister describing her as “Covid Rani “ and “Nipah Rajakumari”. The sexist comment drew wide in political circles and public alike given especially that, Kerala has been viewed as a striking outlier in mitigating covid and ensuring welfare of its people, despite its high expatriate and migrant populations, and its health minister felicitated by states around India and abroad for effective strategies.
Earlier, Kozhikode district in 2018 - 19 was struck by Nipah outbreak, which was successfully quelled albeit a nurse in the govt hospital there, Lini, tragically lost her life caring for the virus patients. Incidentally, for their acknowledgement of minister Shailaja’s role during those difficult days, pro-Mullappally Congress workers targeted Lini’s family too.
