Munnar: Police in Munnar’s Pallivasal arrested 3 men including the UDF candidate for distributing liquor bottles to sway voters. The incident occurred in Ward 3 of Pallivasal panchayat where UDF candidate SC Raja and two of his supporters were nabbed by police.
Voters were treated to booze at Megdhoot resort located close to Booth no. 1 near the regional polling station, where the candidate SC Raja and his party workers Pechamani(30) and Murukan(32) played hosts to the liquor party. On a tip-off, the Munnar Sub Inspector, KM Santhosh raided the hotel and found sizable numbers of liquor bottles. The candidate SC Raja too was drunk when police arrived.
All three have been charged under Section 171 dealing with influencing voters using money and/or alcohol. Following the incident, special teams headed by ASP have been surveil each ward.
