THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Given Kerala’s marked success with Covid-19 pandemic, Maharashtra Health Minister, Rajesh Tope, consulted the state on dimensions ranging from standard  operating protocol, to treatment, tracing and testing. He  discussed the varied aspects  with Health Minister KK Shailaja  via  video conference.

In the first phase of the outbreak, states of Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, Delhi, Karnataka and Rajasthan studied  Kerala’s strategies closely. Recently, Karnataka contacted the state govt on the issue once again.

In densely populated places like Dharavi, the inability to maintain safe distance is one  of the primary  challenges, Rajesh Tope said. Maharashtra tops the chart among states for India’s highest number of coronavirus cases and related deaths.  The govt and health department is doing its  best  to bring down infections and deaths in the state. Added to the challenge is large number of patients turning up with other illnesses.

Despite outbreaks in Kerala, its ability to have curbed the spread and institute elaborate quarantine network are proud accomplishments indeed, said minister Rajesh. The state’s plasma research program in quest for the virus-cure is also praiseworthy, he added.

Minister Rajesh Tope took great interest in the Motivation Campaign undertaken by the state for the mental wellbeing of its health workers amid pandemic. That campaign had drawn on celebrities including Mohanlal, Jayaram, Fahad Fasil, Tovino, KS Chitra etc and served to be a great morale boost to the health community. The campaign was an all-new experience, said Minister Rajesh.

The two  ministers held detailed discussions on hospital operations, preventive measures, research, new systems, staff training, and safety guidelines followed in Kerala.
