Thiruvananthapuram : Mahila Congress member, Preeja arrested for helping the killers make their getaway to Konni, had pawned her jewelry to arrange for their transport. She is a relative of the main accused Unni and Sanal and her mother lives in Konni.
On the day, Preeja arranged for a Maruti Swift Desire to take Sajeev and Unni to Konni reportedly on instructions from Sanal. Such a situation was foreseen before the crime actually took place and she had secured money needed by pledging gold. Police came up on Rs 13,500 in cash from the Maruti Swift.
Murder weapons and killers' clothes
Police also found bloodied clothing - 2 shirts, believed to have been worn by the culprits at the time of murder - and weapons presumably used in the crime, at a rubber estate in Mottacauv in Nedumangad, all of which have all been sent to Forensics to confirm their authenticity.
The police are meanwhile examining phone records pertaining to the culprits and a few other Congress leaders to unravel conspiracy behind the murder. There are over 1000 calls being scrutinised for the purpose. Police will seek custody of the accused persons who are currently in remand, for detailed questioning on the crime.
