KANNUR : All roads, including the State Highways and those in the rural stretches, shall have quality makeover completed by December, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. He was speaking at the inaugural of Thattai bridge in Kannur.
Most road works are slated to be completed before monsoon and the rest shall be taken up by December. In stretches where roads have been wrecked by floods and landslides, added fund requirements of the local bodies shall be met from the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, Pinarayi said.
Though delayed, the national highway between Thalapadi and Muzhipilangad is going to be a reality soon. After the State was asked to contribute towards land-acquisition costs, the govt made borrowings from KIIFB to pay up the National Highway Authority, the Minister said. With Work Tender in place, the construction activities would get going soon, he added.
The govt is insistent that bridges constructed shall be durable and lasting in their make. A few bad experiences in the past led govt to be particular about this, Chief Minister said. The Public Works Department is carrying out building works in commendable way. In fact, their activities have seen the advent of an all-new developmental culture, he added.
