MANGALURU : The govt on Saturday set out five KSRTC buses, to fetch Malayali students caught up in the riotous town of Mangaluru. The buses will have police protection all along their to and fro mission.

The students became stranded after curfew was clamped in town following two deaths from police firing on Thursday. The buses to Mangaluru took off from Kasaragod hub, escorted by police convoy and will collect students stranded in varied locations including hostels, said govt sources.

The buses will leave Mangaluru’s Pumwell this evening, said Kasaragod collector Dr D Ajit Babu. He had instructed Principals of respective institutions to take necessary steps, to reach students safely to the location.

The state govt had contacted Karnataka govt earlier, seeking cooperation for the safe transportation of the students through its jurisdiction.
