Alappuzha : The man who attempted to kill himself after bludgeoning his wife to death, has also died. The accused, Ponnappan aged 75, had killed his 65year-old wife Lissy at their home in Kallupuraykal in Alappuzha’s Tiruambadi with repeated blows to her head using iron rod. Ponnappan was admitted to Alappuzha Medical College hospital in critical condition
The murder that shocked the neighbourhood took place at 1:30 noon yesterday, Thursday. The couple were alone at home. Their son and daughter-in-law, both employees of Federal Bank, had gone to doctor to show their four-month-old baby. They had ordered food online for Ponnappan and Lissy. When the delivery body knocked at the door several times and no one responded, he informed Ponappan’s son.
Soon a neighbour was asked to check on the elderly couple. Peeping through a window, he saw both of them lie in pool of blood. Police arrived and they were transported to the hospital. Lissy was already dead by then. Ponnappan was admitted to the ICU.
Lissy had arrived home after hospitalisation for fever only on Wednesday. Police investigations are underway. Son : Vinay P Varghese, Daughter-in-law : Meethu.
