Thiruvananthapuram : Managements shall not be allowed to instruct girl students to first remove their head-covering for entry into school, said Education Minister V. Sivankutty. The minister was reacting to incident at St.Roch’s School in the city.
The minister directed school management to let students into the classrooms without having to discard their hijab, adding that, such incidents shall not be allowed to happen.
Context : For two weeks now school authorities have been stopping girls at the gate, insisting they move their shawl from over their heads before being allowed into the classrooms. Following this, parents gathered outside the gates in protest of the practice.
