Kochi : Special Investigation Team probing Manasa murder case submits chargesheet to Judicial First Class Magistrate court in Kothamangalam.
Manasa, a dental college student, was shot to death by Thallaserry native Rakhil(32), who committed suicide after the murder. Rahul, a interior designer by trade, was infatuated with Manasa and moved over to live at a lodge in Kothamangalam from his Kannur home to be able to stalk Manasa who was a BDS student at Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences there. A few weeks before her death, Manasa had complained to police on being menacingly followed by Rahul.
Rakhil is prime accused in the case and Adityan Pradeep(27) resident at Kannamthil in Kanuur’s Edachova is second accused for helping Rahul buy the murder weapon from Bihar and smuggling it into the state. Bihar native Sonu Kumar(22) is third accused and the fourth accused is Manish Kumar Verma(21) - both of who acted as middle-men-in the gun deal
There are 81 witnesses listed in the chargesheet and also attached are forensic evidences. The special team investigations were helmed by district police chief K Karthik.
The incident took place on 30 July. Adityan reached the paying guest accommodation where Manasa lived and shot her point blank.
The police probe extended to Bihar, Varanasi, Patna, Mungeer, Sankarpur and Jatia Bandhar in a bid to catch the two men who supplied the fatal gun. All three culprits are currently in judicial custody.
The time-bound investigation and issuance of chargesheet are a notable feat for the polie. The investigation team comprised SP K Kartik, DySp Muhamad Riyas, Instpector VS Vipin, Sub Inspectors Maheen Salim, Shaji, Kuriakose, Marin Joseph, KV Benny and SPOSs VM Reghunah, TM Muhamed, Anoop, Shiaz, Besil, Basheer and others.
