New Delhi The State government has mobilised resources to fetch home nine Malayali students stuck in riot-torn Manipur. The Special Representative of Kerala in Delhi, Prof. KV Thomas informed that he was able to speak on phone with students belonging to Kozhikode, Kannur, Malappuram, Wayanad and Palakkad studying in Manipur University.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had ordered for rescue of these students. KV Thomas further informed that Kerala House in Delhi will carry out joint rescue operations with NORKA if there be more Keralites stranded in Manpur.
Backdrop: Rioting and arson began Wednesday in the wake of “Tibal Solidarity March” organised in various parts of State by the All-Tribal Sudents Union Manipur(ATSUM). The govt imposed curfew in some districts and also shutdown internet. As violence continued Thursday, 55 columns of Army and Assam Rifles were deployed with shoot-at-sight orders issued for ‘extreme cases’.
