Thiruvananthapuram : Talks shall be held involving both sides on the 21st in connection with Mathamangalam shop closure, said state Minister for Labour V. Sivankutty. The talks shall be chaired by labour Commissioner S.Chitra where both sides namely, the workers’ union representatives and the shop owner, shall be heard. The issue has been entrusted with the Labour Commissioner after news of it became known, the minister said.
It is not govt policy to shut down businesses. The state now has a business-friendly environment, the minister said. The government is intent on having ease-of-doing-business for the state. At the same time, it is deeply committed to uphold workers’ rights, the minister said.
Context : A hardware store at Mathamangalam in Kannur faced problem from local headload workers who complained they were denied their share. The shop was found running without panchayat license and closed later. As the issue came to be known, the Labour minister promised due intervention for reopening of the shop as well as resolving workers’ grievance.
