Kochi : Mayor Soumini Jain has come under fire, with demands for her removal looming large. Congress leaders from the district will meet KPCC(Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee) president Mullapally Ramachandran on Sunday to urge her ouster.
The decision to move the Soumini came about at late night meeting Saturday, attended by senior leaders.
According to sources, Shyni Mathew from Fort Kochi division will be suggested as replacement.
Seniors including UDF convenor and MLA Benny Behnan , MLA VD Satheeshan, DCC President TJ Vinod will visit Mullapally in this regard. The group also plans to recommend KR Premkumar from Palluruthy division for Deputy Mayor's position, currently vacant after, the incumbent resigned following TJ Vinod's victory in recent by-poll.
Earlier, Kochi corporation came under scathing criticism from High Court, which even said the committee should be dismissed. The court was referring to hardships suffered by city dwellers from heavy water-logging and choked drains, added to power and water-supply disruptions for days together.
Congress scraped through a victory in recent election, when life in the city was thrown off gear. However, men were dismayed by their narrow margin of votes and LDF grabbing a sizable share, in what is traditionally Congress stronghold.
The present move comes from what Congress circles believes is, Corporation's inefficiency to have prevented heavy water-logging that frustrated their voters.
