MV PradeepUpdated: Friday Jul 28, 2023

Thiruvananthapuram : 1550 seats across 12 government medical colleges will remain intact and  open to admissions. The TD Medical College  completed  preparations to admit students into its 175 seats  this academic year. The National Medical Commission (NMC) made a visit of the college in February and what the review team pointed out during inspections, was not limitation relating to treatment facilities. Rather, they were amin accessorial items like inadequate punching machines, CCTV cameras, etc. Post the visit, these shortcomings were resolved and report submitted to the NMC.

Based on evaluation that there was no hassle to first year MBBS admissions, the Admission Commissioner invited options including Alappuzha.  The NMC also expressed satisfaction post inspections at Idduki and Konni Medical colleges readied by the  2nd Pinarayi Government.

Back in 2016, the Centre canceled approval for Idukki Medical College the UDF government started but only on paper. At the time the 1st Pinarayi government came to rescue of stranded aspirants and transferred students of that college to other medical colleges. Last year, led by Health Minister Veena George the Idukki Medical College became a reality, following which, it gained sanction for MBBS admissions. Similarly, the State Govt completed setting up of medical college in Konni too.
