Thiruvananthapuram : In a first, Government Dental College at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College made it to National Medical Education rankings, securing 44th position in the list. The Health Minister Veena George thanked all members in the Medical Education dept for their initiatives such as Quality Improvement alongside implementing other activities.
The Health Minister said there has been great progress in the field of Medical Education in the past two years. Two medical colleges and two nursing colleges materialised in this period, so did liver transplant surgery at govt hospital. Medical colleges are transforming into centres of excellence with implementation of master plans for it underway, the minister said.
After this government came to power, it became possible to get approval for 29 specialty seats and 9 super specialty seats. Huge interventions are being made toward development of the dental sector, the minister said.
Minister Veena George has visited Thiruvananthapuram more than 50 times with regard to discussions for development of the Medical College. The gap analysis between teachers and students at the Medical College were made out and action taken to bridge that. As part of the Master Plan, Rs 717 cores were availed from KIIFB and spent on development works at the Medical College.
The road and bridge slated in the first phase was completed. Following this, Rs 194.32 crores was sanctioned and phase II works took off. The funds were granted for MLT Block, Theatre cum Surgical Ward, SAT. Pediatric Block. 44 crore was allocated over and above for setting u p of the Imageology Block.
