Kochi :There shall be strict action in the bribery case involving staff at MG University, said state Minister for Higher Education, R Bindu. Such incidents shall not tolerated. I have instructed authorities at the university to take strict action in the regard, said the minister.
The vigilance and anti-corruption bureau officials had arrested CJ Elsy employed as University Asst. at the university. She works in the MBA section of the examination wing. The concerned girl, an MBA student from 2014 batch, had seven papers pending which she cleared last year. However, on inquiring with Elsy on the results, the girl was told she failed in some subjects but would be helped with clearing for a bribe of Rs 1.25 lakhs. The girl paid the amount in varied installments into Elsy’s bank account at the University College campus. But later on, the girls checked the published results and learnt of how she was taken for a ride. Elsy promised to issue her provisional certificate for an additional sum of Rs. 50,000 which she later reduced to Rs 30,000. It was during payment of the first installment of Rs 15,000 toward this amount that Elsy landed in Vigilance net.
