Thiruvananhapuram : Surfacing now is Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan’s letter as minister in UDF government, recommending a Congress leader to the post of govt lawyer.
In the said letter, Thiruvanchoor recommends to Oomen Chandy Thodupuzha native Dome Thomas for appointment as govt pleader at High Court. The recommendation worked!
Recently similar recommendations for lawyer appointments from several Congress leaders, MPs , MLAs and ministers, propped up for all to see. Appointments at that time was in total disregard of the guideline that stipulates caliber and competency as selection parameter and never to be that of nepotism.
Notably, it is lawyers that must represent the government that get recruited in this manner, purel on basis of their political affiliation.
The cabinet is empowered to make appointments in all posts ranging from District government pleader upwards. The remuneration for High Court pleader is Rs 1,20,000 and that of other pleaders Rs 1 lakh per month. There occurred wide pull-and-push and auctions during UDF tenure in these appointments. The High Court pleader during UDF tenure was dismissed for not presenting govt side in the Lottery case.
