Thiruvananthapuram :Health Minister Veena George visited patient who got stuck in OP block elevator over the weekend at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The doctors informed the patient’s health condition was satisfactory.
There will be strict against those accountable for the situation, the Minister said. She spoke with relatives of the patient and ordered urgent investigation into the incident.
Following preliminary inquiry report submitted by Joint Director of the Medical Education, three employees were suspended. Further action is on hold pending detailed investigation. The joint Director Dr. Vishwanathan too was present with the minister during the minister’s visit .
Thirumala native Raveendran Nair(69) who lives on rental at Ulloor got trapped in the lift on Saturday. He is availing ortho treatment for his backpain and got stuck in the lift while carrying his test report to the doctor. Raveendran pressed button for the upper floor but the elevator descended downwards and on halting, found himself locked with door un-openable. Raveendran tried to call his relatives using mobile but the call would not go through. In the panic, the phone fell out of his hands and broke. Ravindran shouted aloud for help, but could not be heard outside. The lift operator arrived Monday morning and found Ravindran who was thoroughly exhausted and weak by now.
Raveendran was quickly moved to the emergency department and is currently undergoing treatment in the Pay Ward, where his condition, the doctors assured, is stable.
