Kolkata : The Left and Congress took out joint rally in Kolkata and other districts in Bengal protesting against extreme corruption in Mamata govt and its misrule in state. . The rally demanded immediate allocation of Central funds for Employment Guarantee scheme, and protecting of democracy.
Thousands thronged into the rally that took off from Maulali Ramlila Maidan in Kolkota , passing Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road and Park Street before culminating at Park Circus Maidan. In all streets that the rally passed, people in large numbers joined the demonstrations.
Left Front Chairman Biman Basu, CPI(M) State Secretary Muhammad Salim, Pbiyangam Suryakantha Mishra, Left Front and Constituent Party leaders and Congress led the rally.
Demands: Chief demands were : Expel all guilty of corruption from the State cabinet,; cancel appointments made on bribe; confiscation of all money and wealth earned by way of corruption; stop backdoor appointments; make government jobs only to deserving people. The rally also called to withdraw freeze on Central govt funds meant for the 100-day Employment Guarantee schemes.
Corruption on wide scale that has never been witnessed before is happening in the state, said Muhammad Salim at the meeting held post the rally. Several minsters and Trinamool leaders are involved in this. Many ministers and Trinamool leaders are involved in this and although several have been arrested, many more continue to remain inside the administration, he added.
