Kozhikode : The Vigilance will issue letter to PWD seeking to have MLA K. M. Shaji’s houses measured for record purposes. Shaji currently faces charges for acquisition of illegal wealth.
PWD will size up two houses belonging to Shaji – one located in Kannur and other at Kozhikode. The move follows confirmation that excess floor spaces have been constructed at these residences than permitted by the local municipality.
Incidentally, the probe team is set to question Shaji’s wife shortly as much of the documents seized in their raids turned out to be in her name. The palatial houses, built using crores of rupees is filled with exotic furniture and expensive home appliances. Once the cost of these articles are ascertained, the report comprising their values would be submitted in the Vigilance Special Court.
Shaji’s wife is slated to be questioned some time next week. The MLA too will be summoned for parallel questioning.
Vigilance raids at Shaji’s house in Kannur and Kozhikode unearthed 77 documents pertaining to various transactions and also black money to the tune of Rs 48 lakhs. Shaji has been so far unable to cite source to excess wealth in his possession, although allowed one week by court to provide documents thereof. That time is due to end in two days now, after which the Vigilance will fix its dates for further questioning.
