Thiruvananthapuram : The govt will seek permission of Supreme Court to cull aggressive and rabies-infected street dogs, said Minster for Local Self Govt,  MB Rajesh, speaking at the high-level meeting of participants from various departments.

Rigorous vaccination drive shall be launched to control rabies among strays. Beginning this 20th, the vaccine drive will last for a month with a target of administering 15000 doses daily, the minister said.

There is legal hurdle to killing of dogs owing to which the Supreme Court must be approached for approval purposes. Kudumbasree members who volunteered during Covid times shall be invited to join the endeavour. Those willing shall be trained to administer the vaccine, the minister said.

Separate vehicles shall be hired to conduct the vaccine drive. As of now, the vaccination shall begin from those already trained, the minister added.
